Insightful little video production created & presented to us by Pete Stone, Locally to Pete lives a master of his craft and a fine shoemaker, He decided to create this piece to showcase the talents and skills of the man they call The Cordwainer. Through the use of minimal lighting and a small amount of filming equipment Pete was able to create this visual production alone, something that im sure would have delighted “The Cordwainer” or as he is sometimes otherwise known “The Cordovan”. Photographer by Trade Pete is starting to branch out into video pieces like the one below, to find more of his work – follow the link below.

Josh Owens brings us this impressive tilt shift style time lapse, filmed for his local television station who wanted for some footage of traffic flow of downtown Rochester – New York. After The first night of filming Josh was having some issues with security being concerned what he was up too, so the next day he made some calls, and not only was be given permission to film in the garage he was filming in the night before, but he was also given access to five other locations in and around downtown Rochester. So calling ahead, especially in an urban environment, Josh says is always a good idea and may open up new doors that you didn’t no existed. This piece was created with each shot at about 20-30 mins real time, at 1 frame every 3 seconds and filmed with a Canon 5d Mark II.

Some works by Urs Fischer, a swiss artist that was born in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1973. His installations and sculptures have been exhibited in many group exhibitions and biennales worldwide, including Manifesta and the Venice Biennale.

Urs Fischer’s artistic practice is founded on a consideration of the nature of substances, the act of making, and the unpredictable processes that can result from combining the two.

As seen here in his work below, he uses an extraordinarily wide range of materials—Styrofoam, clay, mirrors, fruit, wax, wood, glass, paint, sawdust, and silicone, to name a few.

Richard Evans, the 27 year old creative retoucher and graphic designer, produced this piece of work called Information Leak. This was made using laser-cut letters that appear to be flowing out of a tap like water, hence the title of the project. The idea behind this design was to represent the information overload in today’s society, or ‘how it over-flows into our lives’. All the letters are hand painted and laser cut from wood, then arranged in an appropriate manner to get the flowing effect.

More imagery of this project below.

Misaki Kawai was born in 1978 and grew up in Osaka, Japan. As a young girl she was influenced by western pop culture to a fanatical degree, especially 60’s fashion and the hippie culture, she even used to hand make clothes for herself to wear. She then went on to graduate from Art College in 1999, and travelled most of the world, her place of residence is now in Brooklyn, New York.

Most of her drawings and artwork are set around a world of cartoon characters, it’s all very innocent, honest and full of adolescent playfulness. Misaki’s work pretty much shows off her personality, cute is probably an understatement, more like adorable. You will see what i mean in the video below this written piece, in which we get a tour of her apartment thanks to VBS.

This sort of illustrative work really appeals to me, it’s simple and easy to decipher. I think an illustrators job is to easily put the point across, if he or she can’t do that, then there is no point in the piece existing.

Animator and illustrator Matt Smithson, or Man vs Magnet as he affectionally likes to be called brings us a collection of latest work he has been putting together so far in twenty ten. This artistic reel contains the many workings of Matt, with the majority for both curious pictures who represent him in the United States, and Nottoscale who represent him here in the United Kingdom. Matt brings a very surreal and unique style to the table, just looking his portfolio you can tell he’s not your average creative, his work is so out there, which I love. I think it would be and interesting place to live inside Matt’s head for just a day, it seems he has a child like imagination and view that any thing is plausible, which he has never allowed to grow up and good for him, his work is bold brave and beautiful and has the ability to make you stop in your tracks and just enjoy.
Starting at approximately 4.30 in the morning to shoot this project Philip Bloom went about creating this insightful visual production about horse racing in America. In his recent blog post on this piece Philip mentions that he was surprised by the types of people involved in the American horse racing when compared to those here in England. Often young students seem to be involved here, in contrast at the hollywood stables he found Latin American guys with large filmic moustaches, he didn’t mind to much though as this all added to the character and culture of the piece. Theres a real community feel to this piece which I like, Philip has captured the welcoming nature of these individuals, who seem warming to those who want to learn about their sport and lifestyle. The original purpose of this video was to test out footage using Illya Friedman’s new Pl Camera, which is simply a very nicely modified canon 7D. You’d have to ask Philip himself, but I think this setup passed the testing, for more information on this piece follow the link below.
