Nuit Blanche By Arev Manoukian
Posted by Daniel Benning on February 4, 2010 at 11:24 am in artNuit Blanche is a mesmerising, stark black and white short film brought to us by director Arev Manoukian, represented through Spy Films. This piece explores a fleeting moment between two strangers, revealing their brief connection in a hyper real fantasy. This is the best piece of constructed creative filming I have seen since Sky by Philip Bloom, pieces of this quality can become few and far between at times, so its a real treat when projects like this one do come through. There is an aged feel to this piece with it being set on an 1950’s street, the male character walks along the cobblestone street in his work attire, returning home perhaps, as a woman in a restaurant window catches his eye. Gazing into each others eyes the production leads into a wonderful piece of slow motion filming, the shot of the male walking through water here is a fantastic, the detail of the movement of the puddle is captured is stunning, I could watch this alone several times. There is sheer quality throughout this short, it leads for a really enjoyable watch and Arev Manoukian and his team are set, in my opinion to win several awards for this piece.
Arev himself was raised in a family of artist and engineers in Montreal, he plays with art and technology to tell stories in ways that challenge his imagination. Ever meticulous in his work, Arev thrives on being involved in all aspects of filmaking from pre-visualising his concepts to cinematography and music. This piece was created by bringing one of his day dreams to life in the form of this production. After studying film in toronto, Arev soon began directing music videos for local bands which went to air on much music, lately he has directed interactive jobs for clients such as Mazda, Axe, Wrigley gum, 20th Century fox and the Nfl. He also directed Nokia’s interactive commercial ” The Passenger”, a cannes Cyber Lion and Show Finalist. Arev does all this being represented by Spy films an award-winning production house, leading the way in film, tv and digital interactive content.
