We had some beautiful sunshine this week, so it seemed about time I updated some of the photographs in the shop. It’s actually been a while since we received any new stock from Fujii Works, but it’s mainly because I’ve been so impressed with their current selection, so I’ve been re-ordering quite regularly.
As well as a capturing a few of the newer pieces that came in stock, you may have noticed I’ve also been including some shots of me holding the pieces, which I think gives you an idea of the size and scale of the work. That’s one of the downsides to shopping online, but hopefully this helps a little.
If you don’t already know, Fuji workshop are based in Hyogo prefecture and consist of husband and wife team Kenichi and Minako Fujii. Kenichi turns the wooden vessels on a lathe, later using a spinning wheel to sand the pieces down. Minako then applies the lacquer to protect the pieces, but she also uses different methods to create unusual surface patterns and a range of colours.
I’m especially attracted to the little white lacquer cup and cake plate for this reason, both are unique and offer something different from usual lacquer works. Hopefully you like them too and will have a browse at the works in the shop. Enjoy and have a lovely weekend.
