New Work at OEN Shop – Brass Spoons and Dishes by Ruka Kikuchi

Brass Spoons and Dishes by Ruka Kikuchi of Lue Brass 1

I spent the weekend at the YSP (Yorkshire Sculpture Park), also visiting the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield which is close by. Both are worth the journey if you’re ever in the UK. The YSP has a current exhibit by ‘Not Vital’, a Swiss creative who is a sculptor, painter and designer. I was taken aback by his geometric forms, as well as his use of shiny surfaces in his series such as this one called ‘Heads’ (which I personally think look like Aubock paperweights).

So on Monday when these new works arrived by Ruka Kikuchi, also known by his nickname Lue Brass, the way these reflect light really reminded me of the sculptures that I’d seen in the park. And as I’ve had a few of the pieces left out in the office over the past few days, they’ve already started to patina and change slightly, which is really satisfying to see.

It’s also refreshing that these are bigger items from Lue, such as the large serving spoon and various spoon, as well as the 12 inch dish, which is really more of a tray. Here’s a few photos of the new pieces in stock, they can now be found over on the collection page.
