Frank Leder Spring/Summer 2012 Collection Lookbook

Rest assured, we’re not the sort of people to write about every brand who takes centre stage in the shop. We’ve decided we don’t want the shop to inform our content too much, it’s only right that we continue the way we were going with the blog and keep you all up to date on our inspirations and other things that are great. There’s so much stuff out there and we still think we can put our own twist on it!

It’s just quite a coincidence that I’m highlighting Frank today as he’ll be one of the designers that we’ll be stocking when we open on Monday, and it will be his Spring/Summer 2012 collection in the spotlight as well. So although slightly ironic at the same time it’s sort of fitting and means you can have a closer look at the clothing, the collection as a whole and also the inspirations behind it. With Frank I always get inspired by the relative material that compliments the collection, it really adds meaning and gets you into the brain of the designer and behind his thoughts. It’s funny to think that all these little stages of inspiration jot up and become apparent in the final concept, something that you can see very clearly for SS12.

Last season we spoke to Frank in a short Q&A session and he touched on how the themes were linked between Winter and Summer, which I thought was particularly impressive. AW11, titled “Galicia (Galizien)”, was basically to introduce the inhabitants, their living conditions, their rules, and specific dress codes. This season is a follow on and looks to travel as a major influence, mainly the emigration out of Galicia towards America. This all comes together through the postcards which complimented the lookbook, so I decided to include them as you scroll down to get you intertwined and involved with the theming of the collection.

I know from handling these clothes that they’re something special and should be deeply admired. Lots of the trims being rooted in history and most of the elements have some sort of historic relationship behind them which makes the pieces have real substance and value. Not only that but the garments are deeply wearable, in my opinion always tinkering on the borderline of being theatrical, which isn’t an easy thing to do and pull off as a clothing designer.

Obviously you can check out some of his clothes in our online shop that goes live on Monday, we’ll have some great details and some interesting facts on the garments, but for now just marvel in his genius by scrolling below.

  • These shots are fabulous! They look like stills from a play I’d love to see. I love the way my brain starts putting together these little narratives as I scroll through them. It’s great that Mr. Lieder sites the work of poet Paul Celan as an influence; it’s so rare to see a poet of such depth sited in this industry. Bravo! As for the clothes…I hope both those blue blazers are listed on the OEN site when opens on Monday!

  • Thanks for the comment Todd. We’ll be stocking quite a nice selection of pieces, well worth checking out on Monday …
