Men of Alaska by PORT Magazine

The temperature has plummeted here in England and it looks like it will continue to fall over the next week, luckily for us we’ve only had a small amount of snow but I can’t say the same for our next set of subjects.

As I was browsing tonight I came across this nice article by PORT Magazine which was created by Danish photographer Klaus Thymann and stylist Adam Howe who travelled all the way to the glaciers of Juneau in Alaska. This exclusive shoot for PORT was basically to talk to residents who live their about the beautiful surroundings and the past, present and future of this city. In the mix of things they’ve featured some shots of the male locals wearing some clothing, most notably Albam, Woolrich Woolen Mills, CP Company and Arc’teryx Veilance. I decided to pick out four of the nine images that I liked the most as the others went a bit upmarket in terms of their popularity, such as Ralph Lauren and Henri Lloyd, which isn’t really our sort of thing.

I have to say I was pretty disappointed that they didn’t do more with the feature itself as I think they could of delved into the lives of each individual a bit more. It’s pretty interesting to hear about their stories and how they live quite remote and free from ties with the corporate world. Otherwise I thought it was a pretty good idea for a project and seemed to work pretty well if I’m honest, I definitely learnt a few bits about Alaska that I didn’t know before and also the City and Borough of Juneau. To have a read and to also mull over the photography click the link below and you will be taken to the exact feature page on the PORT Magazine website.
