Oliver Spencer’s Spring/Summer 2012 London Runway Presentation

As you know, we’re not runway folk here, we keep it simple, focusing on the design and admiring the whole concept behind the garments and the brand itself. Plus these catwalk type shows can bring out the worst in people, coming across as quite hyped up and a bit over the top, but when Oliver Spencer was kind enough to invite us to his showing in London again for the second season running we couldn’t turn down the offer.

He does a great job every collection and seems to bring quite a simplistic approach to his shows, slotting in nicely as an understated label that brings to the table hard hitting clothing that any male can fit into his wardrobe. This specific collection for SS12 really built on the last AW11 collection that I covered back in February, you can read that here for the comparison.

This event was much bigger in size and seems to have generated more of a buzz, with Spring 2012 inspired by the French mod. Flowing with colour and attitude, Oliver takes one step away from his rugged approach that we’ve seen in the past and pinpoints a more preppy look for Spring 2012. Bold stripes and polka dots sit nicely against clean and fluid lines, it seems to be getting more tailored with every season that passes. I was particularly taken a back by the intricate pocket combinations on the front of the blazers and the outerwear, some unusual shaping, clearly showing that every part of the clothing had been considered carefully.

I’ve picked out some photography from the showing, something that we plan to update in the next few days. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we can put up some extra details also and give you a look at what it was like from our seats on the front row, 35mm style.
