These mobiles reminded me of the joy that is life, the surprising use of natural materials adds to the whole concept. The materials, such as wire and stone, are all found in and around Lisbon.

CALDER | PROUVÉ at Galerie Patrick Seguin

The good folks at Patrick Seguin recently released some imagery from their latest exhibition that started on Saturday titled ‘CALDER | PROUVÉ’, which will run until November 2nd, 2013. Sculptors haven’t really featured here that often, but when I do pick one out they always bring something unique and different to the table. One artist that has been on the blog in the past is Alexander Calder, and my office is littered with books revolving around the …

Series of Modernist Sculptures

Series of Modernist Sculptures

It’s not often I put together this type of post featuring a selection of creatives in one go, but I thought I’d break my own mould today after searching around a number of fantastic online archives. Sharing the video of modernist architect Josep Lluis yesterday relit my own interest in the era and I felt compelled to delve a little deeper and highlight any works that caught my eye today. After the form is carved and made smooth he applies more than 20 coats of lacquer, each coat is polished, meaning it can take seve …

If you’re anything like me you’ll see why as we delve deeper into the different objects and the designers/artists that made them. For the last few years I’ve known that Wright holds an auction annually titled Mass Modern which …

Mobiles, Stabiles and Sculptures by Alexander Calder

Mobiles, Stabiles and Sculptures by Alexander Calder

In my article on CY Twombly a few weeks back I promised that I’d explore the works of Alexander Calder sometime in the near future. That day is today, I’m going to shed some thoughts on the individual, why he inspired me and also use this post to present some wonderful works that he’s created in the past. His mobiles were what really struck a chord with me, I saw a selection at the …
