Digital Fantasy Land by Matt Pyke
Epic, as cliche as that sounds, would be a good word to describe this piece by Matt Pyke titled Digital Fantasy. From scouring through Matt’s website it turns out he is based in a wonderful log cabin studio surrounded by greenery. He’s a digital artist, director, designer, painter, animator and lecturer (pretty much covers everything then).
Matt got together with Nowness to create a metamorphic short, which you can see below, that will be presented at the first major exhibition at Paris’s newly opened La Gaîté Lyrique. The show will present an extensive collection of Pyke’s collaborative video work, with immersive projections encompassing the entire 26,246-square-foot space: cartoon-like monsters tower on ten-feet-tall screens, airplanes crisscross the ceiling, and chiseled dancers disintegrate (in the extended version of today’s film) across a 69-feet-wide wall before transforming into bubbles.
I’ve still got visions of this man creeping in from the side of the screen, would of really topped off the experience. For now, check it out below, or view the full experience over at Nowness.
