Cohesive Design – 01 Series by FRAMA
There’s something so appealing about the original plywood furniture designed in the 30s and 40s. Not just the functional aspect, but also the restraint and subtle way that they blend in with any interior space.
These chairs by Copenhagen-based multi-disciplinary design brand FRAMA are titled under the ’01’ name. Simple even runs in the name! Reminding me of Alvar Aalto’s plywood furniture, the chairs are quite rigid in appearance thanks to the unique angular construction and have a slightly muted aesthetic brought in by the all the natural wood finishes. I especially like the birch as it has a sense of purity about it (which is the wood finish mainly seen in this article).
Incorporating these so-called ‘plain pieces’ into the home might seem as though they wouldn’t add enough flare, but truth be told I think these hold a natural aesthetic and let the seating do its job without attracting too much attention. It’s good design at its best! What more do you want for the home?
