Crackle Slips & Glaze Effects – Ceramics by Potter Shinobu Hashimoto at OEN Shop

Crackle Slips & Glaze Effects - Ceramics by Potter Shinobu Hashimoto at OEN Shop 1

I’m always in awe of Shinobu Hashimoto’s work, he has a really unique style that’s rooted in simplicity. Although in some cases his work is very understated, using black slips with gold tones shining through, he also makes pieces that are bold and striking like his platinum series in the shop as an example.

I personally like his hibi kesho collection, which is a white slip that then crackles to create a unique pattern across the surface of the pottery (see the last image of his teapot). It’s also great how he’s been able to use multiple slips to make the effect more prominent, giving them a rustic or ‘wabi’ effect.

This week I took some time out to recapture his work, as well as some new pieces that are fresh in from the Japanese potter. Hopefully you enjoy these images below and will check out more of his work in the shop.
