Akihiro Nikaido is one of the more popular artists in the shop and has a very strong following in Japan. His reputation has been well earned though, producing works that are truly unique with an abundance of character. I’m always in awe of the thin forms that he’s able to produce, especially his ‘mist’ collection which features a glaze that is really something to marvel at.
This time the mist collection has a slight twist, using a local red clay with the white to produce one of a kind objects that are to be cherished for a life time. As Nikaido makes these vessels to harness the sensorial experiences at a tea gathering, his works are not only special in appearance but also special to hold and use.
Here is a selection of imagery of these works handmade by Akihiro at his studio in Mashiko, Japan. All of them have been uploaded and are now available to purchase in the shop.
