New Maker at OEN Shop – Woodworks by Japanese Craftsman Keiichi Sakai
One of the best parts about my job is working with younger, up and coming makers who are looking to cause a bit of a stir in the craft world. Too long have we stood by the generic ideas attached to this field and it’s great to be part of a new movement towards modernising these objects and pushing them in a new direction fit for today’s world.
Keiichi Sakai is a new maker added to OEN shop that I’m really proud to work with. Crafting from his studio in Kakamigahara in Gifu Prefecture, his work appears to follow the direction of many other makers in Japan, to make functional woodwork for daily use. His main interest though revolves around the idea of using high quality hardwoods to make durable cutlery and objects that will eventually surpass him and live on in to the future.
We have uploaded our first selection from Keiichi and all of the works can be seen on the link below. He’s a talented maker and we can’t wait to see what else he produces by hand in the future. Enjoy.
