Walnut and Cherry Zabon Tables by Tomokazu Furui at OEN Shop
There’s quite a few items in the store that I function around myself. One that I particularly like, and revolve around more frequently than I would of first thought, is the beautifully crafted ‘Zabon’ by Japanese woodworker Tomokazu Furui.
I personally use mine as a small meditation table to hold a singing bowl and a small bud vase, but I’ve also used it in the past to present food at the table. The actual name zabon means a ‘sitting tray’ and is often an item used in the tea ceremony to present sweets to the seated guests.
The ones that Tomokazu makes are particularly special. Coming in both walnut and cherry, they have short legs with a finely crafted surface where we can see light chisel marks from where the maker has been at work. Signed at the bottom ‘tomo’, I continue to use mine daily and hope others will also be able to function around such a lovely item of furniture. More items from Tomokazu coming soon, for now his work is available in the shop.
