Examining Space – Ceramic Sculpture by Jane McKenzie

Exploring space in design is a whole sub-category in itself, especially in architecture. Of course, you have open spaces, connecting spaces, and even negative spaces, all these small intricacies make or break the cohesiveness of a work.

I was drawn to the work of Australian artist Jane McKenzie for this reason who looks to explore both geometry and architecture in her ceramic sculpture. By using slabs of clay, McKenzie plays on her lifelong interest in art and her architectural career to showcase how structure and void can combine to craft innovative forms that intrigue and please the eye.

At the end of the day, any designer is looking to achieve a similar feat. Jane McKenzie’s attention to detail and overall craftsmanship is certainly inspiring. See more on her website linked below.
