Crafted by True Enthusiasts – dk3 Furniture by Jacob and Ann Plejdrupand

The longer I study the work of craftsmen, designers, and even artists for that matter, it becomes quite apparent that there’s a big difference between designing work and the promotion of it. Unfortunately, without proper representation of these products it’s very difficult to transmit the thoughts of the maker to a wider audience. This audience usually know very little about design in general so you have to be quite considered in your approach.

For this reason I was drawn to the work of dk3 Furniture, a company founded in 2009 by Jacob Plejdrupand and his wife Ann Plejdrupand. Their goal was to re-establish some of the classics that have since been forgotten, starting specifically with Paoul Cadovious and his ROYAL shelving system that was designed in 1948. After Jacob spoke with Paoul in 2010 they also decided to represent other great Danish architects and designers such as Jeppe Utzon, Kaare Klint, and most notably Børge Mogensen.

I’m always grateful of such creatives who are redeveloping these classics and trying to configure them for our ever changing environment. Especially a company such as dk3 who are achieving this by working closely with Danish makers and are focusing heavily on the carpentry itself, not just the design element. It will be interesting to see how they are able to develop this line of furniture and keep revisiting them throughout the coming years. Here are a few pictures that caught my eye, more can be found on their website linked below.
