Dictaphone Parcel By Lauri Warsta

Innovating visual project brought to us from recent graduate of London’s prestigious Royal College of Art Lauri Warsta. The piece we have today was actually awarded the Passion Pictures Prize in February, although this is the first i’ve seen of it online. With an eye pleasing aesthetic to the animation itself the piece heightens in stature when you learn how Lauri came about creating the concept for the piece.

All the visuals were created after Lauri sent a dictaphone through the post from London to Helsinki, capturing raw audio as the basis for the piece to be created on.As the parcel travel’s through the various locations we get a slice of the atmosphere of that place, from time to time we get background voices and postal workers mutterings as they do there daily duties. We hear a mixture of abstract sounds, various types of transport and even discussions between the mail workers. The animation visualizes this journey by creating an imaginary documentary.
