The Cube Project by Mike Page

Dr Mike Page gives us an interesting tour of his newest initiative titled The Cube Project. Basically it’s partnered with the University of Hertfordshire, who set out to build a compact home, no bigger than 3x3x3 metres on the inside. They wanted it so one person could live a comfortable, modern existence with a minimum impact of the environment.

Within its 27 cubic metres it includes a lounge, with a table and two custom-made chairs, a small double bed, a full-size shower, a kitchen, a washing machine, and a composting toilet. Lighting is achieved by ultra-efficient LED lights, and the Cube is heated using an Ecodan air-source heat pump, with heat being recovered from extracted air.

This video below was shot by Allan MacDonald at the Edinburgh International Science Festival, April 2011, giving us a general overview of all the different elements. Sustainable living is very interesting, but I’m not always 100% convinced when people have to strip their whole lives apart to maintain it. It’s nice to see that Mike Page and co. have included modern necessities into this standard home, plus the design is pretty innovative in a lot of ways. Watch on below.

Quite a good demo of what is possible. I hope that you elaborate on this concept with other “homes” that could accommodate several people in a space that would be conducive to civilized living.

Keep up the good work and let the imagination have full freedom.

I’ll put it on my website that has viewers all over the worlds.

    The best and clear skies,
