Wefi Surfboards by Mark Wyatt

Recently Vancouver based filmmaker Mark Wyatt created this short documentary on local creative Randy Weflen who makes handcrafted wooden Surfboards for a living. The project guides us through a the process that Randy undertakes to build these beautiful custom hollow western red cedar boards, which are all constructed from natural elements found on the West Coast of Vancouver Island.

As I watched on I couldn’t help but admire the skill and craftsmanship that goes into making a Wefi Surfboard, especially when they are designed to drastically outlive their fibreglass competitors while holding such an alluring aesthetic. I’m a big fan of the less is more concept so when stumbling across a product that is both simplistic, useful and designed to last, it always gives me a little bit of satisfaction. I don’t particularly surf but if I was to regularly I’d certainly look at getting myself one of these.

Thanks for posting this guys. He is quite the perfectionist and it really shows in his boards.
    Cheers.
