Mastering Kumihimo – Kumi Scarves by SCMP

Kumi Scarves Collection by SCMP Design 5

French design firm SCMP Design Office has released a stunning collection of scarves, the Kumi Scarves Collection for Ryukobo, that looks more like a modern piece of art than an ordinary scarf. Inspired by one of the 350 Kumihimo techniques that Japanese craftsman Mr. Fukuda and his family have mastered, the scarves showcase a unique and intricate flat weaving technique that creates these unique patterns.

The designers were so captivated by the beauty of this technique that they decided to create larger pieces, so that the scarves could become a part of any home space as a textile artwork. They combined coloured strips of woven threads to create a pattern inspired by the common PAL test pattern and the flooring layout, resulting in a stunning, mesmerising design that catches the eye and draws the viewer in.

The Kumi Scarves Collection is a testament to the incredible craftsmanship and precision of Japanese art and design. Each piece is made using the finest materials and techniques, resulting in a luxurious and durable product that is sure to last for years to come. Whether you wear them or hang them up as artwork, these scarves are an exceptional and unique addition to any collection.
