Gastrotypographicalassemblage by Christian Carlsson
I found this video whilst browsing vimeo and thought it deserved a place up on the site. Christian Carlsson, based in London, directed this short film for Kemistry Gallery, who is celebrating the work of legendary designer Lou Dorfsman.
Louis Dorfsman was a graphic designer who oversaw almost every aspect of the advertising and corporate identity for the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) in his forty years with the network.
This exhibition mainly centres around one of his most well known pieces, the 11 metre wide handmade wooden typographic wall that he named Gastrotypographicalassemblage. Hence the name of the film. This wall has custom type created by Herb Lubalin and Tom Carnase, containing almost 1500 individual characters.
