Dieter Rams at SFMOMA
This isn’t the first time that we’ve written about Dieter Rams and his work and it probably won’t be the last either. I came across this short video piece directed by Nathan Cozzolino and edited/scored by Andrew Birchett for Dwell magazine. Dwell is becoming a place that I check on a regular basis for inspiration, possibly more so since since I’ve become interested in interior design and architecture. It all seems to interrelate and on Dwell you can come across some really nice articles on fantastic homes and interiors, this time it just happens to be more related towards product design.
The basis for the video is that the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) are hosting an exhibition that includes more than 200 models and objects by Rams and his team, as well as contemporary designs influenced by his Ten Principles of Good Design. I think this is a nice touch, integrating modern examples of the Dieter Rams ethos and how it has inspired companies and designers alike. I also agree with what Rams says in the piece about the fact that not enough companies are taking a stronghold on design and are not letting it rise to the forefront of how they work. Hopefully through companies like Apple people can see the true value in great product design. This exhibition is running until the end of February 2012 so if you’re in San Francisco this should definitely be on your list of places to visit.
