The Art of Tsukiita – A Short Film on Japanese Studio Mori Kougei

The Japanese Woodworking Art of Tsukiita 1

It’s very difficult to showcase the hard work and dedication that goes on behind the scenes to craft exquisite works of art through imagery alone.

Japanese woodworking studio Mori Kougei has multiple facets to their making process that are note-worthy. This new short film does a great job of breaking down the intricacies in their ‘Tsukiita’ making process that involves using thin sheets of natural wood that are then cut into triangular forms using a sharp cutting blade.

The trays are constructed by slotting together these thin sheets. Careful attention is made to expertly line up the grain and make sure each is cohesive and sturdy.
