Balanced Lines – Furniture Designed by Niels Hvass and Christina Strand

I think it’s normal as a website that cites minimalism and modernism as sources of inspiration for us to feature a selection of Scandinavian work here on the blog. Throughout the years we’ve been fairly Scandinavian heavy, whether it be work by creatives that are inspired by this countries design ethos, or those who are from the country and feel as if it’s part of their heritage and identity.

There are many reasons why I’m inspired by the principles of minimalism, usually the two categories that these fall in to are in architecture and furniture design. The reason why is that these are the basis for character and individuality, they can fall away in to the environment and blend in. I personally own Vitsoe shelving and furniture, which I think is one of the best investments I’ve made, but this work designed by Niels Hvass and Christina Strand reminded me of a similar design pattern.

They are owners and collaborators at Strand+Hvass Design Studio, located in Copenhagen, Denmark. Their main goal is to design furniture for both commercial and residential purposes, functional seating and tables that are simple and well balanced. So for any up and coming furniture designer I high recommend scrolling through their portfolio, there’s some great inspiration. Here’s a selection of my favourite work from their website, enjoy.
