British designer Giles Pearson and his UK-manufactured furniture company Origin Furniture has been on my watch list for a while now. Geared toward hospitality, workplace and educational environments, Giles’ mission is to combine aesthetic and function into an affordable product.
I picked out the ‘Contour Collection’ in-particular as I felt it had all the properties that make up a timeless furniture series. Simplicity. Check. Good design. Check. Character. Check. All of the above are present and much more.
By using durable tubular and wire steel they have been able to craft this contoured seat that follows all the way through the centre line of the chair. Although simple, thanks to the various colour choices available Giles has been able to elevate the design and bring an element of fun. This is often lacking when it comes to the contemporary furniture.
I admire Giles’ passion and how he is pushing classic “good design principles” out in to the world on a consistent basis. This particular collection has been in development for 2 years and has gone through countless tweaks and adjustments, as well as being enabled by the advancements in the tube bending machinery itself. I look forward to what others designs come from Pearson and Origin Furniture in the near future.
