New at OEN Shop – A Selection of Woodwork by Chitose

Woodwork by Chitose 1

Craft does have some limits. One of course is the material of choice. There are only so many applications of a certain material, with the characteristics and properties guiding a specific purpose. Not necessarily a negative, but this does explain why we see so many forms that are very similar.

Chitose is a project by Kimumoku, a workshop based in Hirosaki, Aomori on the Northen tip of Honshu. This workshop originally produced cedar wood ladders used for maintenance of the apple trees in the local area. They have since been exploring the use of these local woods, especially cedar and apple tree, to produce a collection of wonderful objects for the home.

Using small portions of wood they are able to mix and match the best pieces of wood, crafting and polishing them in to contemporary mirrors and trays for the home that are sure to bring joy to the user’s life.
