Hallo Work Light by 45KILO Designs

Hallo Work Light by 45KILO Designs

I’m finding quite regularly now that I go searching for one particular medium and end up finding an alternative that catches my interest instead. This happened earlier when I went about searching for an architectural project, I landed upon the page of Philipp Schopfer and Daniel Klapsing who are two designers responsible for the 45 Kilo design studio, with their latest creation the “Hallo” series really resonating with me. What I love about this …

Tekio by Anthony Dickens

Tekio by Anthony Dickens

We now move our attention towards an English based designer who has undertaken a project influenced by the design style of Japan, so something that feels quite at home in our archive. Given our admiration for the Japanese style we can be rather predictable with our content sometimes, although we have been quite good lately so I don’t feel all that guilty for sharing this project today. The film compiles a short interview with the designer …

Lacquered Paper-Objects by Nendo

Lacquered Paper-Objects by Nendo

The talented individuals at Japanese design studio Nendo were kind enough to send me these photos of this wonderful new project that they’ve undertaken titled “Lacquered Paper-Objects”. Basically they’ve produced a small container which has been created using a 3D printer that cuts, stacks and pastes the sheets of paper one by one. The lacquer adhered thickly to the edges of the stacked paper results in an odd texture which …

Leaf House by Mareines & Patalano Architects

Leaf House by Mareines & Patalano Architects

Admittedly this is a rather more elaborate than the architecture we traditionally feature here, in the search for a group of firms I’ve not come across before I found myself admiring this “Leaf House” which has been built by Brazilian architects Mareines & Patalano. I felt this was worth making an exception to the rule however, as the project made me begin to consider the challenges faced by the designers in hotter climates so hopefully it …

Selection of Furniture from Superfolk

Selection of Furniture from Superfolk

I’m not sure how popular Makers and Brothers has become, but personally I’ve really enjoyed seeing their vision unfold as they bring the world Irish made objects that are simple, beautiful and sometimes very quirky. If you’ve not made a visit to their web shop yet I’d really recommend making the click across soon. Their store is actually how I came across the designers we’re sharing here today, “Super Folk” who are a Dublin based inde …

Melvin the Mini Machine by HEYHEYHEY

Melvin the Mini Machine by HEYHEYHEY

Say hello to Dutch collective HeyHeyHey and their latest project which is a Rube Golberg machine designed to entertain, amuse and inspire. Melvin the Machine is in fact a development of a smaller scale to previous Mevlin’s the team has built, with this edition being delicately constructed inside of two suitcases. On the surface these are really lighthearted and fun but when you stop and think about the design of a contraption like this you …

Selection of Work from Akio Kamiya Architect & Associates

Selection of Work from Akio Kamiya Architect & Associates

Browsing over the portfolio of the Akio Kamiya studio earlier today I was really blown away by the way they’ve transformed a traditional Japanese aesthetic to incorporate modern elements. These projects I’ve brought across today really optimise why I get so inspired by architecture, the combination of structure, texture, lighting and unity within each builds environment is simply breath …

Short Film on Kutani Choemon Ceramics

Short Film on Kutani Choemon Ceramics

We do tend to bombard you all with pottery here, but for this I can’t apologise as I’m about to share some again, as we visit the studio of Kutani Choemon who have been operating in Japan since 1879 would you believe. I found it really incredible that the current owner Kentaro Kamide is the fourth generation of his family to direct the creation of traditional Kutani Pottery in Ishikawa, such heritage is really something to be …

Introducing Architect Joseph Dirand With Freunde von Freunden

Berlin based publication Freunde von Freuden bring us the experimental approach to minimal design through the architecture of Joseph Dirand and his team in this short filmed interview. Joseph’s style is most notable in his living space seen in this short film where he has combined traditional with Kubrickian elements. In the short Joseph goes on to talk about …
